INDO-GANGETIC PLAINS CENTRE FOR AIR RESEARCH AND EDUCATION
MEASURING LONG TERM SHOT-LIVED-CLIMATE FORCERS IN RURAL INDIA
The IGP-CARE is a pioneering research initiative founded by Dr. Ravi Kant Pathak, associate professor and atmospheric scientist at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. The IGP-CARE focuses on air monitoring and characterisation of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) including black carbon, Brown Carbon and tropospheric ozone in rural India. The IGP-CARE is situated near a remote village Ruri Para District Hamirpur U.P. India.
The overall aims of the IGP-CARE is to understand the presence, environmental effects and variability of the short-lived climate pollutants – e.g. black carbon (BC), Brown Carbon (BrC) and ozone (O3), by long term measurements combined with intensive campaigns, laboratory experiments and modeling to elucidate the relevant processes involved in rural India.
The IGP-CARE will also be supporting the educational endeavors for children from local rural communities and organizing vocational training for local youth for better livelihood by partnering with non-profits and educational and research institutes internationally.
